Sabres Edge Stangs
The Mustangs were ready to play on this night in Huron Park against the South Huron Sabres. There was no slow start evident tonight. The Stangs battled hard to the end but were defeated 2-1.
Jenna Burbidge scored in the first period as she picked up a loose puck in the nuetral zone and weaved her way around the Sabres defence for a close in opportunity that she took advantage of by firing it into the homesides net.
After a bit of alull where South Huron took advantage of a couple of miscues to take a 2-1 lead by the midway point in the second frame, the Mustangs regained their energy as they skated the Sabres defence into forced errors from a strong forecheck. It started with Jordan Litt having a great chance off of receiving a pass from Hussey that she deflected towards the upper part of the net. Sabres goaltender came up big on that opportunity as she did on Nelson and then Sydney Carson, Molly Berfelz and Hussey in the third.
Upper Maitland will play a couple of exhibition games as they now prepare for the W.O.A.A. League playoff weekend.
