Mustangs end season on High note
The Mustangs traveled to Port Elgin/ Southampton for the year end Championship this weekend and after winning one and losing one the Mustangs ended up tied for first in their pool. After going to the fourth tie breaker the team was eliminated from the tournament by a goal.

The Mustangs lost to Georgian Shores in game one 3-0 but stormed back with a huge win in game two beating Teeswater / Mildmay 1-0. One more goal scored in any of the other 5 periods would have gave us an extra 1/2 point an put us into first place and a spot in the finals.

Game 1: The Mustangs played a great first period and after 1 was tied at 0. The team stopped skating in the 2nd and Georgian Shores scored 3 goals in 6 minutes. The Mustangs settled down in the third and played well keeping the score at scoreless in the third and gained a point. Landis King was awarded Team MVP.

Game 2: Needing a win and winning 2 periods the Mustangs played awesome keeping the score at 0 after 2 periods. Mustangs got a lucky break in the 3rd when the Otters fired a clearing shot off their goalie into the net to give the Mustangs the lead and the eventual game. Madison Jacklin was awarded the goal. Shelby Foster earned the win and shutout in net and was Team MVP.

" Our game plan was to shut down their top scorer who had 90% of their goals this year. Sydney Pruden played against their player and did not allow # 7 a shot on net. Syd had an awesome game. "

Our forwards: Sydney Pruden, Carly Kreller, Skye Maldini, Bailey Sheil, Madelyn Yungblut, Laeney Williams  and Hanna Gerber had their best effort of the year and though no goals played a hard checking game and created many chances but could not find the back of the net.

Laeney Williams hammered in a rebound in the second period which clearly went in but was disallowed as the refs missed it. That goal would have put us in the Championship game!

" Our goal this year was to be defensively solid and cut down on goals against. Our D of Landis King, Rachel Mills, Sara Gottfried and Madison Jacklin played awesome all year and again this weekend were a big factor in our success. Shelby Foster had a great weekend in net and a a shut out in the biggest game.

I am real proud of this team and how they have progressed this year "...Great job Mustangs!
