Howick Atoms Win in Double Overtime!
This weekend the Howick Atoms are playing in the Mildmay Tournament.  Their first game was Friday night at 6:00 in Teeswater.  The first game was against the Blyth-Brussels team.  The team wasn't very excited in the dressing room.  Coach Dinsmore gave the team some reminders.  The team headed out for warm up.

The first period saw the puck moving from end to end.  Both teams came out strong.  The fans were really getting into the game.  The Howick players kept working together and some really good passing was being done.  The team was working together to try and score the first goal.  Both goalies were working hard in their nets.  With the puck moving around a lot, it made for a great first period.  Blyth-Brussels scored with 9:08 left on the clock.  Howick not wanting to be out done came back strong.  With 7:26 left in the first period, Daniel Wood (6) got the first goal. The assist was given to Nathan Versteeg (33).  The goalies didn't allow anymore pucks to go in for the rest of the period.
The second period Blyth-Brussels came out stronger than the Howick players.  Most of the second period the puck was in Howick's end.  Thanks to some great saves by Shelby Foster (1) the score stayed the same.  Until, Blyth-Brussels scored with 0:28 left on the clock.  It was a total team effort tonight at the game.
The third period brought more action for the fans.  The puck kept moving from end to end in this period. Both teams were working hard.  With 5:24 left on the clock, Wood scored his second goal.  The Howick fans were so excited!  The period ended with a tie of 2-2.  The first period of overtime was for five minutes.  Many shots were taken on both goalies but they weren't letting that puck in.  After the five minutes it was still tied.
The second period of overtime was 4 on 4.  The Howick team kept trying to get the puck in Blyth-Brussels net.  Again, both goalies were working hard between the pipes.  With 0:21 seconds left in the period, Byrson Bennett (3) made a great pass up to Landis King (29) who took the puck up to the net and shot it past the goalie! The team, fans and coaching staff were thrilled with the results.  At the end of each game in the tournament, a player from each team will be named the MVP for the game.  Howick's Daniel Wood (6) was given the award.
The next game is Saturday morning at 9:10 in Mildmay. Come out and cheer on the Howick team!
Great game players! Was great to see everyone working so hard!
