Atoms go to Tiverton for their last game
Wednesday night, the Howick Atoms traveled to Tiverton for their last game of the season. The players and the coaching staff were ready for a good game. There was lots of fans in the stands for the game. Everyone was ready for an action packed game.
The first period saw lots of action. Both teams were working hard trying to score the first goal. At 6:41 left on the clock, Howick managed a shot on goal. The fans heard the bang as it hit the post. A loud sigh rang through the audience. With 3:48 left in the period, Reece Hamilton (34) scored the first goal of the game. Everyone was so excited! Tiverton didn't take long to respond to the goal. Seven seconds later, Tiverton scored their first goal of the game.
Both teams came out working hard in the second period. Each team was trying to break the tie. Shelby Foster (1) was making some great saves in the net! Daniel Wood (6), Rachel Mills (19) and Nathan Versteeg (33) all made great plays to stop Tiverton players on break aways. There was several attempts by Howick to score, but they were unable to put the puck in the net. Tiverton scored again with 3:11 left on the clock. Howick seemed to lose some of their drive as the period ended.
The third period had plenty of action for the fans to watch. Landis King (29) had a great shot on goal but was denied. With 8:15 left on the clock, Tiverton scored another goal. As someone mentioned the other day to me, when the puck gets past the goalie it already got past the other five players on the ice. Foster was working hard between the pipes for Howick. Great job Shelby! Several other attempts were made to score but none were successful. Ryan Dinsmore (10) made a great defensive play to stop Tiverton from scoring a goal. The entire team worked hard tonight. They have improved so much from their first game! The coaching staff wants to congratulate the team on a great season!
The end of the year banquet is tomorrow night. Hopefully the entire team can be there.
