South Bruce Hosts a Great Tournament
On Saturday March 15th, the Atom Howick Hornets headed to Mildmay for the Atom LL Tournament that was being hosted by South Bruce MHA. The team was keen to play. The first step was getting a team picture. Next step was playing their first game against Shallow Lake #1 team.
The game was a long one for Howick. After the first period it was 2-0 for Shallow Lake. Only one goal was scored in the second period again it was for Shallow Lake. However, in the third, Shallow Lake applied pressure to the Howick team. They were able to score 7 goals in the period. Howick was able to get some shots on goal but none of them got past the Shallow Lake goalie. The final score was 10-0. An MVP was announced for both teams. Jaden Greer (1) was Howick's winner. The team was a bit disheartened after the game.
The second game was in the afternoon against Lampton Shores. This game the teams were closer matched. Howick again was unable to put the puck between the pipes. During the first period, Lampton Shores managed to score 2 goals. The second period saw lots of action from both teams. I noticed the fans were offering lots of encouragement to the players. There were several shots on both goalies but no pucks were getting in the net. The third period, Lampton Shores managed to score 3 more goals. Howick tried several times to score a goal but they were unsuccessful. Roger Blough (13) made a great play in the last few moments of the game to stop Lampton Shores from scoring another goal. The final score was 5-0 for Lampton Shores. Bryson Bennett (30) was named the MVP of the game.
Each player received a necklace and a team photo from the tournament.
