Exhibition Game #1: Howick vs. Walkerton
The Howick Atoms took to home ice Friday night to host an exhibition game against Walkerton.
Although the Atoms fell short by a score of 4-2, the hornets lead game for the first 2 periods to lead by 1-0. Our Hornets were asked to play their first game of the year with the knowledge they have learned over their past couple years of playing. With new line mates and some playing in new positions on the ice, they seemed to quickly learn how important it was to play as a team by passing the puck to each other and keeping the puck out of their own end. Second year Atom veteran goalie, Jaden Greer played a solid 1st half of the game to keep the Walkerton team shutout. Even though 4 goals scored by Walkerton in the final period, it took several attempts to get them by our line. Both Howick goals were scored by Kyson Williams with defensive partner, Avery Harding adding the assists to the goals. Finding the right forward lines for all the kids to play with will take a couple more games, but once those kids find the right combination with each other, more teams will fear playing against the Howick Atom Hornets. The Atoms play their next exhibition game on Sunday Oct 19th as they travel to Wingham for a 4:00pm game. Good luck kids!
