Atoms take home the B-Division Trophy at the Clifford Tournament!!
Our Atoms played in a one day tournament in Clifford on Jan 3rd with a guarantee of 2 games only with high hopes to make it into final to play a third game.

The Hornets first game was against a very strong Shallow Lake team at 9:00am in which the Howick kids were defeated by a larger score of 13-0 to put them on the B side of the tournament.

Game #2 was played at noon against fellow division group team, Minto.  With evenly matched clubs, the game was much more pleasant to watch than the first with the puck travelling to both ends of the ice.  Minto opened up the scoring in the game in the fist period and ended the period just at 1-0.  It was a goal by Kyson Williams in the second period, assisted by Avery Harding to even up the score at the end of this period.  Going into the third, both teams pressuring each opponents net with opportunities in the first two periods, but it was finally Jayden Grass with a break away just 32 seconds into the period with a goal to have the Hornets go ahead by a goal.  Many more back and forth plays for the rest of period occurred, with strong goal tending from Howick's Jaden Greer and from the Minto goalie.  With just two and half minutes left to go in the game, another break away from Jayden Grass with a potted goal brought the Atoms closer to a win to finish out the game.  Then, just 22 seconds later, another shot from the top of the circle from Kyson Williams scored a forth goal ending out the score with a 4-1 victory putting the Hornets into the B side final.

The final game was played at 4pm against Creemore who travelled just over an hour to make it to this tournament.  The Atoms had big intentions to go into this final game to pull out a win to take home the larger trophy of the two and they did just that with their highest scoring affair on the year with an 8-3 victory.  The Hornets pressured the puck every moment they could get, and it was just one lone player from the Creemore team that was only able to get the puck by goal tender Dayden Frey who played a very strong game himself.  Goals scored by Howick came from Kyson Williams (2), Jayden Grass (2), Joey Schaefer (2), Colby Thomson & Matthew Wilken.  Assists coming from, Jaden Greer, Kyson Williams, Jackson Fischer & Ashlyn Hill. It was not just the scoring of goals that made the Hornets win the B side of this tournament.  Strong skating and attacking the puck from all forwards, Brent Huigenbos, Roger Blough, Jayden Grass, Joey Schaefer, Jackson Fischer and Ashlyn Hill; kept the puck in the opponents zone from game 2 and 3 to keep the Hornets on top. Very well played games this weekend kids!
