Midgets Begin Playoffs With A Bang
The Howick Midgets began their round of playoff games Monday night with a match against the Milverton Drives. The winner of a best of three series between these teams will decide the winner of the Elite division.

Howick got off to a hot start as Kenzie Brooks held the puck in at the offensive blue line. He found Austin Clarke down low, who in turned spotted Dustin Robertson in front. Robertson made no mistake to open the scoring. Later in the period, Brooks again kept the puck in and again found Robertson in front for another goal.

Minutes later, Evan Fraser started the breakout from behind his own net. His lead pass found Mitch Baillie, who tipped the puck up to Clarke. Clarke used his speed to break around the Milverton defense and scored on the breakaway to open a big lead for the Hornets. Not content with a three goal lead, Robertson scored a short handed goal with one second left in the period to give his team a commanding 4-0 lead after the first.

After another short handed goal from Robertson early in the second, Howick continued on the attack. Graham Devlin broke in on a two on one with Baillie. A beautiful pass left Baillie wide open in front, and with nothing but time, he slid the puck home to open up a 6-0 lead for the home squad heading into the final period.

Careful not to let Milverton back into the game, the Hornets continued to press in the third. The visitors would get on the board midway through the period, but Cole Miller and Devlin would each add a tally shortly after to keep Howick comfortably ahead. When the final buzzer sounded, Howick skated away with an 8-1 victory and a 1-0 series lead.
