Midgets Split Pair To Open Round Robin
The Midget Hornets played a pair of games this past week against Chatsworth to open their round robin playoff grouping.

Howick made the trip north this past Tuesday to open things up. A goal seventeen seconds into the game put the Hornets down early. Despite being undermanned and the Rebels having a very deep bench, Howick kept up to the fast pace of play. Late in the second, however, Chatsworth potted a couple of goals to give themselves a 3-0 lead after two.

Another goal early in the third added to the Rebels' lead, and with the Hornets unable to mount much of a comeback, Chatsworth came away with a 4-0 victory.

Less than a week later, the Hornets had a chance to avenge their loss to Chatsworth. This time they came out flying. Cole Miller blocked a shot in his own end and broke in on a partial breakaway. His shot found pay dirt to give his team the lead. Another goal by Graham Devlin gave Howick a 2-0 lead after the opening period.

Chatsworth would not go away without a fight. A goal in the opening minute of the second got them back into the game. And only a few minutes later they clawed even. Not to be outdone, the Hornets regained their confidence and pushed on. Late in the period, on a power play, Howick made their move. Tristan Brears held the puck in at the blue line and found Dustin Robertson along the boards. Robertson found Devlin down low, who then drew the defenders. A quick pass out front found Miller alone, who made no mistake to put the Hornets ahead. Shortly after, on another power play, the Robertson to Devlin to Miller connection hooked up again on a play that mirrored their previous goal exactly, with Miller beating the keeper to finish the hat trick.

The Hornets continued their assault in the third. Robertson and Matt Schraa fought for the puck down low, and worked it loose to Austin Clarke. Clarke noticed the goaltender wasn't holding his post and quickly shot the puck off the keeper's back and into the net.

The Hornet power play has struggled for much of the season, but on this night they succeeded in scoring three goals while being a man up. The third goal came right off a draw. Robertson won the face off back to Brears at the point who rifled a slap shot over the goalie's shoulder. Miller added his fourth goal of the game into the empty net to seal the game for Howick. Despite a late goal by the Rebels, the Hornets came away with a 7-3 win after a solid all around game.
