Spirited Contest
The Midget Hornets welcomed the Hanover Falcons Thursday night to finish of their round robin playoff schedule. The fast pace, physical match up was a joy to behold.

Both sides came out with their eyes set on going home with victory. Hanover had the Hornets pinned in their own end for the first minute, looking for an early lead. Fortunately, Blake Fraser was excellent between the pipes to hold off this early barrage. The game would then open up with end to end play and scoring chances at both ends. Hanover would open the scoring five minutes in, but Howick would not stay down long. Just over a minute later, Tristan Brears held the puck in at the blue line and passed to Cole Miller in the corner. Graham Devlin found an opening in front of the net, and rifled home the pass from Miller to draw Howick even.

Period two saw a change in the flow of the game, with a somewhat steady parade of players headed to the penalty box. Strong penalty killing along with a lethal power play would now determine which team would prove the victor. On one of Howick's man advantages, Dustin Robertson set Cole Meyer up for a one timer from the point. The rebound bounced to Devlin, whose second goal of the game gave Howick the lead. Perfect penalty killing for the remainder of the frame allowed the Hornets to hold the lead into the intermission.

The third saw more penalties and Howick again took advantage. Kyle Dickert and Robertson set up Mitch Baillie who was alone in the high slot. His wrist shot found the top of the net to give the home side an important two goal lead. A major penalty with just over five minutes to play would leave Howick shorthanded for most of the remainder of the game. Despite great defending, Hanover would get one back. As Brears was clearing a Hanover skater away from the front of the net, a long shot from the side boards hit off his skate and past Fraser. Determined to not let their lead slip away, Howick clamped things down defensively and ran out the remainder of the clock to secure a well earned victory.
