Atoms take on Mount Forest
A rainy, dull kind of day didn't keep the fans away! The Howick Atoms played in Mount Forest on Sunday November 10th, at 12:00 pm. The team was pretty quiet in the dressing room before the game. A few reminders were given to the team by Coach Dinsmore and Trainer Ostriyznick. One reminder was make sure that you play your positions. The team headed out and this manager headed to the bench.
The players headed out for their warm up and the management of the team organizes the bench. After shaking hands with the officials and the other team, its time for the game to start.
During the first period, the Howick team remembered what they had been told in the dressing room. The players were playing their positions and the puck was getting passed between the players. Each line was trying hard to score a goal. Its definitely harder on the bench when there is no whistles to end the play. Trying to get the lines changed while the play continues is challenging! Howick was pressing hard to get a goal. With 5:26 left on the clock, Bryson Bennett (30) scored the first goal. The assist on that goal went to Reese Ostriyznick (17). Mount Forest tried to respond to that goal, but they were unsuccessful in the first period.
Before the second period started everyone on the bench switches ends. The management has to yell a lot louder now to get the kids to complete a line change! Both teams were trying hard to score the next goal. With 8:06 left on the clock, Liam Gibson (15) scored with an unassisted effort. It was a beauty of a wrist shot. The Howick bench and fans were very excited. However, with 2:48 left on the clock, Mount Forest scored their first goal. Howick had two power plays during the second period but they were unable to capitalize. There were several attempts made on the Mount Forest goalie. Jayden Greer (1) was working hard between the pipes for Howick. The score was 2-1 for Howick at the end of the second.
The third period saw the management trying to give the kids shorter shifts. The players were starting to get tired. With the shorter shifts it did help the play. In the third period, Mount Forest scored with 7:05 left on the clock. With 6:34 left on the clock, Howick received a penalty. The players worked hard on the ice to keep Mount Forest from scoring. Some of the positions were getting out of position but that is something that needs to be worked on at practice. The final score was 2-2. Hope Assistant Coach Todd passed his coaching clinic today!
The next game for the Atom's is Friday, November 15, 2013 at Howick. The game is at 8:15 pm against Minto. Hope lots of fans come out to cheer on the team. Remember, if everyone plays their positions, it helps the entire team.
