Gutting One Out !
The midget Hornets battled to a 2-1 victory Monday night over the Blyth/Brussels team that had beaten them a week earlier in overtime. This game was not as fast paced as the previous encounter as skating room was limited as both teams knuckled down to a more defensive style.

After a scoreless first period the visiting squad opened the scoring  early in the second off a turnover at the Hornet blueline. One of the few miscues on the night committed by Howick.
The Hornets maximized their effort tonight which minimizes your errors. There were only a hand full of poor decisions made which limited the offensive scoring chances that the visitors could create.
With just under a half minute remaining in the period Jason Burbidge equalled the score with an assist going to Bramhill. You could feel that it was only a matter of time before Howick got on the score sheet as the final 5 or 6 minutes of the second period belonged to the home side, as their aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck created numerious turnovers in the visitors zone. Burbidge and Hussey had the best opportunities. Burbidge was denied by a great pad save from the Blyth/Brussels goalie and Hussey rang one off the tenders mask that then deflected over the net.
Just as quickly as the third period opened the Hornets were back on the attack. After being denied from the opening faceoff, Burbidge gave Howick the lead 27 seconds into the frame off the ensuing offensive zone faceoff with assists going to Espensen and Devries.
Howick learned from their mistakes from the previous game inwhich they gave up two, two goal leads and played a much tighter third period this game to preserve the win.
Mulder put a fine performance in goal earning the win. Other notables that contributed with a strong performance were Heipel, Harkes, Kleinveld, Smith, Devlin and M. Brooks.
