Midgets Victorious on Hockey Day in Howick
The Howick Midget squad welcomed the Walkerton Capitals to the Hornets Nest for a game on Saturday.

The Midgets wanted to give the home crowd something to cheer about, and were the better team from the drop of the puck. Near constant pressure in the Walkerton end resulted in the first goal of the game for the Hornets. The rebound from a Cole Miller shot found Matt Schraa in front. His shot was stopped but the puck again squirted out to Evan Hoffele, who made no mistake to put Howick up early. One of the few breaks in pressure by the Hornets resulted in a two on one for the Capitals. Despite great defending by Evan Fraser, a nifty pass by the Walkerton forward found his teammate alone in front who beat Blake Fraser to knot the game at one. This, However, would prove to be the only shot to get past Fraser as the Hornets would really lock the game up defensively. A late goal by Dustin Robertson would give Howick the edge at the end of the first period.

Howick continued to put the pressure on the Capitals in the second period. Mitch Baillie picked the puck up along the sideboards and rifled a sharp angled shot on net. The snipe rang off the far post before going in. Late in the period the Hornets were handed a golden opportunity to add to their lead. Penalties to Walkerton gave the Hornets a two man advantage for a full two minutes. Despite a multitude of shots and a number of flurries in front of the net, the Walkerton keeper managed to keep the score 3-1 heading into the intermission.

The Hornets kept pressing in the third. Despite not being able to add to their lead, Howick didn't give the Capitals any chances to get back in the game. Great defense from Kenzie Brooks, Kyle Dickert and Evan Fraser, along with help from all the forwards, stifled every advance from the Capitals. Blake Fraser was not busy in net, but was up to the task the odd time a shot made it through. Howick snapped their four game losing streak with a dominating 3-1 victory.
