Atoms have a Big Win Against Hanover!
Early Sunday morning, the Atoms returned to the ice at home. They were playing the Hanover Falcons #2 team.  The team was still excited from their win on Saturday and were keen to play.  After a few sticks got re-taped the team and the coaching staff were ready to get this game going!

During the first period, the fans saw the puck moving from end to end often. Both teams were trying hard to score that first goal. With 6:00 mins left on the clock, Daniel Wood (6) scored his first goal of many in the game.  Brett Harding (57) got the assist for the goal.  Hanover responded at 4:15 left and scored their first goal.  Both teams were motivated to get the next goal. The Howick Hornets were playing very well as a team and the effort did pay off for the team.  With 2:37 left on the clock, Hanover scored their second goal.  It was a great first period.
Second period opened up with Wood scoring with only 32 seconds off the clock. With only 25 more seconds off the clock after Howick's goal, Hanover scored again.  The Howick fans were excited and cheering on the team.  There was many attempts to score another goal by Howick. Bryson Bennett (3), Landis King (29), Rachel Mills (19), Reece Hamilton (34), Liam Gibson (20), Brad Reaman (73) and Nathan Versteeg (33) all had shots on goal. Both teams were working hard on the ice.  With 4:03 left in the second period, Wood scored his third goal. The team kept pressing against Hanover. Wood scored again with 1:19 left on the clock.  9 seconds later, Wood scored his 5th goal of the game.  Howick was working really hard as a team and everyone was trying hard. All the efforts the players were putting into the game was great for the team, coaches and fans!
The third period, Howick started off short handed due to a penalty called late in the second period.  With 12:54 left on the clock, Wood scores again while short handed. Wood was lifting the puck up and hitting the corner of the net! The Hanover goalie was trying but Wood had his number today! Shelby Foster (1) was making many great stops between the pipes for Howick.  There was many more tries on the Hanover goalie. With 2:05 left on the clock, Hanover scored a goal.  Hanover pulled their goalie close to the end of the game. Howick responded by getting the puck to the Hanover end and Wood put the puck in the net with 1 second left on the clock.  Wood had a great game as did all the players on the team. Howick worked together and won the game.
The final score was 7 - 4 for Howick!
Next playoff action is Wednesday, February 13, at 6:30 pm at Harriston against the Minto Mad Dogs.
Remember, keep your sticks on the ice so when you get the puck, you can it shoot at the net and maybe score a goal!
