Howick Atoms Play Mildmay Monarchs
A snowy afternoon, the Howick Atoms are on the road again.  The game was in Mildmay at 6:00 p.m.  There were lots of fans out for the game.  The players were excited and anxious to play.  Mildmay won their tournament on the weekend, so Howick was looking for a win!  Coach Dinsmore gave some sound advice to the team and they headed out for warm up.

Both teams came out working hard.  There was some really good team effort from both teams.  Howick started out early trying to score a goal. Bryson Bennett (3) was the first with a shot on goal but was denied by the Mildmay goalie.  Daniel Wood (6) was the next player with a shot on goal.  He was also denied.  The entire team was trying hard to get that first goal of the game.  The fans were pretty vocal at the game.  This manager and a few others were looking for ear plugs! It was interesting to listen to the advice that the fans were giving the players. Finally with 2:16 left on the clock, Wood managed to score the first goal of the game. Howick kept Mildmay off the scoreboard for the first period.
The second period brought many great saves by Shelby Foster (1).  She was working hard between the pipes.  There were lots of shots on both goalies.  The Howick team continued to apply the pressure to Mildmay.  Brett Harding (57) made a very important deflection of the puck away from Howick's net.  With 9:07 left on the clock, Mildmay scored their first goal of the game.  Howick continued to work hard.  With 1:15 left in the period, Mildmay got a penalty for too many players on the ice. Howick was on the power play, when Wood scored his second goal with 11.9 seconds left in the period.
Third period action included Mildmay scoring a goal with 12:54 left on the clock.  Howick was determined to get the go ahead goal.  At 10:20 left on the clock, Wood scored his third goal of the game. Ryan Dinsmore (10) got the assist on that goal.  Howick seemed to run out of steam for a bit in the third period.  Howick seemed to regroup and then they started pressing hard again. Rachel Mills (19) had a great pass to Nathan Versteeg (33) who then passed it to Bennett who shot on goal. The Mildmay goalie managed to stop that goal from going in.  A matter of a minute later Reece Hamilton (34) passed to Wood who passed to Bennett who took a shot on net. They were denied again by the goalie.  Foster was making some great saves, keeping Howick in the lead.  The entire team was working hard during the game. It was great to see the team passing the puck more!  It was a great game to watch.  The coaching staff and the fans were happy to see such a great team effort.
Remember, the game of hockey is a team sport! Great job Atoms!
