Howick Atoms get to the Consolation Finals
The Howick Atoms continued on to the Consolation Final against Tiverton at the Mildmay Tournament.  The game was at 6:30 and both teams were excited.  The Howick Hornets had quickly eaten some food and were ready to play their next game.  Once everyone was ready to go out on the ice, this manager found out she was going out with them.  So I got a different view than the fans.

Working on the bench with the other coaching staff gives a totally different view of the game.  Assistant Coach Adam Dinsmore runs the end of the bench with the forwards. Trainer Steve Wood runs the other end with the defence.  Coach Sheldon Dinsmore stands above the rest and tries to keep the team focused and moving.  I always thought it was nerve wracking being in the fan benches.  Being on the players bench it is way more nerve wracking!  On behalf of the players and their parents, a big THANK YOU goes out to the coaching staff for all their hard work!
During the first period, Howick and Tiverton came out working hard. Tiverton was the first team on the board as they scored with 8:33 left on the clock.  Howick came back and evened the score thanks to Bryson Bennett (3) who scored the first goal with 7:25 left on the clock.  Howick kept working hard and Daniel Wood (6) scored his first goal of the game with 5:15 left in the period.  Bennett got the assist on the goal.  The team kept pressing Tiverton and Wood scored again with 2:11 left. Nathan Versteeg (33) got the assist on that goal.
The second period did not go so well for Howick.  Tiverton scored their next goal at 9:29 left in the period.  Howick tried hard to come back and score. Shelby Foster (1) was working hard in net again this game. With 5:42 left on the clock Wood scores the next goal.  But then Tiverton came back and score the next two within 2 minutes of each other.  The second period ended tied at 4 a piece.
The third period saw some really tired players.  Both teams were trying but the exhaustion was starting to show.  With 13:10 left on the clock, Tiverton scored their next goal.  At 7:04 of the third, Tiverton scored again.  Howick tried to catch up. During the third, I had to take over running the door of the defence end of the bench.  That added another level of watching the players and getting them off the ice at the right time.  At 6:40 left in the period, Wood scored another goal.  Howick kept trying to score another goal but the team was unable to put it past the goalie.  The game ended with Tiverton winning 6-5 against Howick.  It was a well played game.
The MVP for that game was Bryson Bennett (3)! Great job Bryson!
The Howick Atom team did very well at the Mildmay Tournament.  The coaching staff was pleased how well the team played.  Mildmay ran a well planned tournament.  All the Howick players enjoyed playing in the tournament.
Great job team!
Howick's next game is Tuesday night at 7:00 in Tiverton.  The playoffs continue for the Atoms.
Remember, no matter what the score never give up!
