Howick Atoms Lose Their Drive and the Game
On Saturday March 9th, the Howick Atoms were playing against the Hanover Falcons #2 team at 2:00 in Hanover.  The team didn't seem very excited while getting ready for the game.  Coach Dinsmore reminded the forwards, that when standing in front of the visitors net, make sure they put their sticks on the ice. They were reminded that the puck is more likely to go in the net if their stick is on the ice to deflect it into the net. The team headed out for the game.

The Howick fans were plentiful and excited about the game.  During the first period, there was lots of action on the ice. Both teams were trying hard to score the first goal of the game.  With 8:18 left on the clock, Daniel Wood (6) scored the first goal for Howick.  The assist went to Brad Reaman (73).  The teams continue to move the puck from end to end.  Howick got a penalty for tripping but the team managed to kill the penalty without Hanover scoring.  Good job team!  With 3:05 left on the clock, Bryson Bennett (3) was in front of the net with his stick on the ice. He managed to score the next goal.  That's what can happen when you put your stick on the ice!  Wood picked up the assist on that goal.  Landis King (29) scored the next goal with 2:36 left on the clock.  Howick was in a great position after the first period.
The second period, Hanover came out fighting for a goal.  They managed to score their first goal with 9:43 left on the clock.  Howick reacted to the goal, as Charlotte Todd (9) had a blistering shot from the red line and scores her first goal! Great job Charlotte! (The fans were very excited especially her parents!)  Howick took many more shots on the Hanover goalie but the puck wasn't getting by.  Hanover scored their second goal with 3:50 left on the clock.  Howick did not react fast enough to that goal as Hanover scored again 35 seconds later.  The Howick team seemed to be running out of steam and losing their focus.  The second period ended with a score of 4-3 for Howick.
Third period did not help the Howick team.  The team just seemed to be spending to much time watching the other team go out around them.  Hanover got a penalty and Howick was unable to score a goal.  The team wasn't moving as fast as normal.  With 5:43 left on the clock, Hanover scores another goal. Howick just wasn't working together as a team.  With 3:05 left, Hanover scores again.   Shelby Foster (1) was pulled in the last minute of play. The team tried to get a goal to tie up the game.  Unfortunately, Hanover scored with 11.8 seconds left on the clock. The final score was 6-4 for Hanover.
Everyone seemed to just lose their drive during the second and the third periods.  Hanover did not though and that shows in the final score.
The Howick Atoms play their next game tomorrow morning at 10:00 in Howick. They are playing Milverton.
Remember, you have to play hard the whole game and not give up your lead!
