Howick Atoms First Game vs Minto #2
Well the shirts have been washed, the score and time keepers have been arranged, and the game sheet is filled in. Now back into the dressing room to see if the team is excited about their first game. There are many new faces this year on the Atoms team. The team has been working hard at practices. They are ready to go out and play. Coach Sheldon Dinsmore gives the team their final instructions before heading out to the ice for their warm up.
During the first few minutes, Clifford came out with lots of power. Minto scored two goals within the first two minutes of the game. Howick seemed to re-adjust and started working harder. The teams hard work payed off when at 7:45 left in the first period, Bryson Bennett (3) scored the first goal for Howick. Bennett was unassisted with that goal. Both teams kept working trying to score the next goal.
The second period, the fans saw lots of attempts to score another goal for Howick. There were many moans coming from the fans when the puck would just miss the net. Jaden Greer (1) was playing very well between the pipes for Howick. The score remained 2-1 for Minto after the second period.
In the third period, both Minto and Howick were putting extra pressure on the goalies trying to score the next goal. At 9:17 Minto scored the next goal. The team kept trying to keep the puck down in Minto's end. Several shots on the Minto goalie were unsuccessful. The puck was moving end to end during the entire period. Minto then scored their next two goals at 3:36 and 3:13 left in the period. Howick was able to respond to that by scoring another goal with 2:22 left on the clock. Bennet scored the goal and was assisted by Avery Harding (50). The final score was 5-2 for Howick.
It was good to see the team working together and getting some of the kinks worked out. Remember, you have to work as a team and great things can happen.
The Atom's next game is November 2, 2013 in Drayton at 10:00 am. Hope to see lots of fans out to cheer the players on!
