Howick Atoms Win Against Listowel
The Hornets swarmed into Listowel on Sunday for their next game. The players were keen for the game. Assistant Coach Todd wanted them to have cold refreshing water, so he brought lots of snow in the water bottle carrier! The team headed out to the ice and did some warm up drills. This Manager headed to the bench with the team. Totally different view from over there!
Howick came out strong on the first shift but forgot the play goes both ways and gave up an early goal. At 9:03 left on the clock, the Listowel team scored when Howick was caught deep. Both teams continued to work hard for the next goal. Shots were being made on both goalies but nothing reached the twine. The period ended 1-0 for Listowel.
The second period brought lots of encouragement from the fans! With 9:16 left on the clock, Bryson Bennett (30) scored the first goal for Howick. Nathan Versteeg (12) assisted on the goal. As the game continued on, Reese Ostriyznick (17) scored her first goal of the season with a low hard shot thru traffic. The goal was unassisted. All the players continued to play hard. The score was 2-1 for Howick at the end of the second.
Bennet scores again in the third period with 13:13 left on the clock. He was assisted by Ryan Dinsmore (14). Action continued to move across the entire ice. With 4:14 left in the period, the persistence of Wade Schefter (11) paid off when he slammed the rebound home. Bennet and Ostriyznick got the helpers on the goal. Gibson, Thomson, Harding, Versteeg, Ostriyznick and Wilkens played strong keeping the puck in the zone and jumped in on many offensive rushes as well. The final score was 4-1 for Howick!
Everyone was pretty happy with the results of the game! The Atoms next game is Friday night in Howick at 8:15 pm. The Hornets are preparing to sting the Hanover Falcons #2 team. Come out and support the team!
