Atom Hornets vs Hanover 2 Falcons
Well the team has had quite a break from playing a scheduled game for awhile due to winter storms. On Friday January 31, 2014 at 7:00 the Atoms played the Hanover #2 team in Howick. Several players were not there, so a few line changes were made. I headed over to the bench to help with the defence.
Howick seemed to not have as much energy as the Hanover team. Some of Howick's players just seemed to be watching the game go by while they were on the ice. Hanover scored three goals in the first period. A big thanks goes out to Brad Reaman for playing goalie for this game. Hanover continued to get lots of shots on net.
The second period did not improve much for Howick. Some of the team members were trying hard but others just were coasting along. The result of that was Hanover scored two more goals in the period.
Coach Dinsmore reminded everyone during the intermission that they had to work hard and try and score some goals. The team headed out but were unsuccessful at scoring any goals in the third period either. Hanover did score one more goal in the third period. The final score was 6-0 for Hanover. The view from the bench is different than the view from the stands. You can see how the players are reacting to the direction of the staff, how difficult it is when a player doesn't listen when they are being told to come off the ice for a shift change, how different personalities manage to mesh while on the ice. It is always a learning experience for me while I help on the bench.
