Big Thanks to Disney and OMHA!
On February 8th, 2014 the Howick Atoms headed to Newmarket for the Disney Tournament. It was sponsored by Disney and OMHA. The main objective of the day was to remind everyone that hockey is fun.
The first game for Howick was at 10:45 am against Elmvale. The Elmvale team came out strong. Howick tried to even the score but it just didn't happen. Elmvale won 5-1. Ryan Dinsmore (14) scored the lone goal. He was assisted by Brent Huigenbos (7) and Colby Thomson (10).
The team and the coaches were then treated to a pizza lunch. After that there was a skills competition for all the teams. Reese Ostriyznick, Bryson Bennett, Ryan Dinsmore, Liam Gibson, Jaden Greer and Matthew Wilken represented Howick. It was good to see the rest of the team cheering them on.
The second game was at 3:30 pm for the Atoms. It was against East Gwillinburg Eagles Black. It was a very good game. The teams were evenly matched. Liam Gibson (15) scored the only goal for Howick. He was assisted by Brad Reaman (23). Both teams tried to get the go ahead goal but the game ended with a 1-1 tie.
The last game was at 5:45 pm against Grafton. Again the teams were well matched. Both teams had many chances to score. Wade Schefter (11) scored for Howick. The final score was another tie at 1-1.
After the games, each player was given a medal and a Disney backpack filled with many Disney items. The players, coaches and parents all had a good time in Newmarket. There were many sleeping players on the way home!
Remember, playing hockey is suppose to be fun!
