Overtime Goal Wins the Game!
On Wednesday February 12, 2014 at 6:00 pm the Howick Atom's had their first game of the playoffs. They were playing Mount Forest in the Hornets nest. The team was eager to get the game started. The coaches reminded the players of a few things and they headed out to the ice.
During the first period, there was plenty of action for the fans. With only 42 seconds off the clock, Wade Schefter (11) scores the first goal of the game. Mount Forest responded to the goal with 7:26 left on the clock. Both teams continued to play from end to end. The period ended tied at 1.
The fans were getting into the game, by offering encouragement and free advice to the players and the refs. Howick scored the next goal with 5:33 left on the clock. Liam Gibson (15) shot the puck up and sailed it into the top left corner for the goal. Mount Forest scored with 55.5 seconds left in the period. The period ended tied again only this time at 2.
The third period saw both teams working hard. Both goalies were getting tested often but were not letting anything into their nets. Neither team was able to score in the third.
In overtime, Howick was trying to get the puck past the Mount Forest goalie. With 8:00 minutes left on the clock, Avery Harding (9) scored the winning goal! She was assisted by Charlotte Todd (20) and Ryan Dinsmore (14). The team was so excited! It was a great way to start the playoffs. The Atoms next game is Saturday February 15, 2014 at 12:00 in Durham. Come on out and cheer on the team!
